A rowing regatta

The stretch of the Po river that flows past the city of Turin, in Northwest Italy, is normally quiet: a few rowers, two boats doing a sort of public shuttle service, countless ducks and swans. This weekend, though, things were different: men in bicycles ran along the beautiful Valentino park, past the mock medieval village, shouting commands and exhortations to, seemingly, no one. I was there on a flying visit and I thought that, in my absence, more and more Piedmontese had lost the plot.
In fact it was anything like that: a national rowing regatta was going on, and coaches had resorted to bikes to keep an eye on their young padawans.
